Former Ohio State center Ibrahima Diallo has landed at San Jose State, per a report from college basketball insider Jeff Goodman, after entering the transfer portal on May 3.
The 6-foot-10 center and native of Senegal appeared in just 13 games in his first two seasons of college basketball after joining Chris Holtmann's Ohio State program as a three-star prospect in the class of 2019.
Diallo now joins Tim Miles' first San Jose State team, having previously coached Nebraska in the Big Ten for seven seasons from 2012-19. The Spartans went 5-16 last year and have not had a winning season since 2010-11.
Musa Jallow, the other transfer out of Holtmann's program this offseason, landed at Charlotte back in April.
Diallo played in eight games as a true freshman in 2019-20, averaging 5.0 minutes and 1.3 points per game, but despite Ohio State's lack of size this past season, Diallo's playing time did not increase.
After sustaining a concussion and an MCL issue early in his sophomore year, Diallo finished the 2020-21 season having played in just five games, with his last appearance coming against Michigan in the Big Ten Tournament semifinal. Diallo played in just one minute of that contest.
Diallo's departure from the Buckeye program is not expected to have much of an impact on the 2021-22 team, as senior forward Kyle Young has returned to the fold for a fifth season, and Indiana transfer center Joey Brunk –– who stands at 6-foot-11 –– gives the Buckeyes another big body down low.
Star forward E.J. Liddell, who declared for the NBA Draft following this past season alongside team scoring leader Duane Washington, has yet to announce whether he will officially return to the program. Washington announced this past week that he will remain in the draft and not return to Ohio State.
