COLUMBUS, Ohio – National Signing Day 2017 is almost two weeks into the rearview mirror and spring practice is still a few weeks away so Ohio State football fans are in a bit of a lull period as the patiently wait for things to ramp up again.
By all accounts the nine freshmen on campus for early enrollment have started making the transition from high school stars to college freshmen and going through their first winter conditioning period of their careers.
We are going to take one final look at the class of 2017 as we go by the numbers to put this class in perspective as one of Ohio State's best-ever recruiting classes.
0: Ohio State landed commitments from zero players in February of the 2017 cycle, the first time under Urban Meyer that Ohio State did not add a commitment in the final days of the recruiting class (2016 – 3 players, 2015 – 3 players, 2014 – 1 player, 2013 – 3 players, 2012 – 2 players).
1: Number of JUCO players in the class. Kendall Sheffield was a one-time Alabama signee before leaving to attend Blinn College in Texas. Sheffield will have three years of eligibility left at Ohio State though many expect him to be a one-and-done candidate with two years of high school separation going into this season.
2: Number of Big Ten teams to finish in the top-10 of Rivals.com's team rankings for 2017 (Ohio State 2, Michigan – 4). The Big Ten also had two more teams in the top-20 with Penn State at No. 12 and Nebraska at No. 20.
