COLUMBUS, Ohio - With such a high-caliber prospect like Trevon Grimes on the Ohio State roster, it's no surprise he lost his black stripe a week before the season opener. What is surprising is whom else lost their black stripe on the same day as Grimes — walk-on running back Mitch Rossi.
Rossi is a former football and rugby player for Franklin High School who played along with Ohio State commit Max Wray in Tennessee, and was the first walk-on freshman to lose his black stripe this year.
Grimes, on the other hand, is a highly touted freshman who Urban Meyer spoke highly of on Monday, who said Grimes was on the cusp of traveling with the team to Indiana and had been producing great things in the last week and a half of practice.
Clearly, Grimes came through in a big way in the eyes of Meyer.
Ohio State has now removed the black stripes of 14 freshman, with Grimes being the first among wide receivers and Rossi being the second running back, behind J.K. Dobbins.
