Pickerington (Ohio) Central running back Morgan Ellison very well may be Ohio’s best-kept secret. The 6-foot-1, 208-pound running back has been emerging on the scene in a major way as of late. Despite having no offers to his name, Ellison has taken home running back MVP honors at three major camps this season beginning with Best of the Midwest, then UAC, and now at the Rivals Camp Series event in Columbus. Going against top competition at these events is something Ellison enjoys greatly.

“I like it, because there’s some of the best running backs out here [at the Rivals Camp]. There’s Jaelen Gill, there’s Todd Sibley – they’re all out here, so I get to see if I can do something against the best,” Ellison said. “I compare myself to those guys because they’re rated higher, so I’m like ‘Let’s see if I can actually be with these guys.’ I think I can.”

Ellison gave that quote this morning before besting every running back at the event, including Ohio State commit Todd Sibley, four-star Jarell White, and 2018 standout Jaelen Gill, among others. While his game film is limited due to injury, Ellison has impressed greatly this offseason. His injury issues motivate him to prove himself in situations like these ones.

“From being hurt and dealing with my injuries for two whole years, it makes me work even harder that I used to work. It drives me,” Ellison said.

With his impressive offseason performances, Ellison has seen college attention begin to come his away and could be in line for his first offer in the near future.

“Syracuse, Toledo, Iowa State, Miami of Ohio, and Ohio State have all hit me up. Me and Coach Tony Alford have started talking a bunch. I’m supposed to go to Ohio State’s spring game and I’m supposed to go down to Kentucky next week as well,” Ellison said. “We’ll see after that, I’m going to try and line up some camps.”

The potential of an offer from the in-state Buckeyes or from other major programs in the region is tantalizing for Ellison and he’s gained perspective recently as to what big-time college football is all about.

“When I was younger, I didn’t even want to go to Ohio State like that at first. But after that first visit I took there two weeks ago, I was just like ‘Wow, it feels right.’ I like Ohio State basically,” Ellison said, putting it plainly. “I think it would be a big push. If I had an Ohio State offer or a Michigan offer, it would be huge. I like the Big Ten a lot and the Big Ten schools.”

While he’s still waiting on that first offer, Ellison has been able to go through the recruiting process to a certain extent and has been able to understand what’s important for him in terms of finding the right university.

“I like to form a relationship with the coach. Some of these coaches have started talking with me about life, not just about football or a scholarship, but what the academics are like and everything. That’s what I like,” said Ellison.

While Ellison’s injury issues are far from ideal, there’s no mistaking the young Columbus native as a major talent at running back. His performances as of late against top competition have distinguished him as one of Ohio’s more explosive athletes and you can count on him to keep improving.
