Young makes it happen at FNL

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Buckeyes got some big news at Friday Night Lights with the verbal pledge of DeMatha High School defensive end Chase Young. Young is a member of the Rivals100 and the first and likely only defensive end to be in Ohio State's class of 2017.

"It just felt right, so I did it," Young said after the completion of the camp.

The 6-foot-5, 220-pounder had long favored the Buckeyes and was on commitment watch as he made a return trip to Columbus to check out Ohio State once again for its annual camp on the field of Ohio Stadium. Obviously it was enough to put the Buckeyes over the top as he made his pledge to the Ohio State coaches and gave the Buckeyes the nation's No. 92 player according to the Rivals.com rankings.

"I just came in and put in some work," Young said. "I just enjoyed my visit. I did not even know that I was going to commit but I had a feeling in my head that Ohio State was where I wanted to go so I just made that choice today."

Young shared a moment with Urban Meyer and Larry Johnson on the field when he made it official to the Buckeyes and admits that the moment is one he won't soon forget in terms of special moments of his life.

"It was surreal, those are going to be my future coaches and they are going to get me to that next level," Young said.

Ohio State has the top class in the nation for 2017 according to the team rankings and this could end up being the top class of the Rivals.com era in terms of recruiting as Ohio State chases the 2014 Alabama recruiting class.

Young has paid attention to the Ohio State class as it has come together and the special class did play a factor in his decision and he has high goals for what he expects out of his new team.

"I am thinking National Championship," Young said.

Another thing that really resonated with Young was the fact that the Buckeyes were not pursuing any other defensive ends in the class.

"I think that I am the best defensive end in the nation," Young said. "I was the their only target and if Ohio State, the best football team in America, if you are their No. 1 target then you better go. So that is what I did."
