Video: Trevon Grimes on the road to recovery

For the second straight year, Ohio State will have a five-star recruit from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Florida entering the program coming off an ACL injury. A year ago, it was defensive end Nick Bosa who came in at less than one-hundred percent before making a full recovery and becoming an impact player for the Buckeyes as a true freshman.

Ohio State is hoping the same can be true for in-coming freshman wide receiver Trevon Grimes. A five-star prospect out of one of the most prestigious high school football programs in the nation, Grimes saw his high school career end early last fall with a torn ACL in the showdown with Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas.

The recovery process has been a grind for the 6-foot-4, 195-pound prospect.

"I am still working. Monday thru Saturday, Sunday is probably the only day I get to rest," Grimes said. "That is not really a rest day because I just stretch every day. (Rehab) is like a football workout times 10. It is hard."

Grimes estimates about 10 hours of rehab work per week, plus some field work on the side. What he is able to do on the field varies from week-to-week. He is sprinting and he is cutting, but some weeks are lighter than others on that front as he tries to rebuild strength in his knee. Right now, the biggest focus is on building a stable foundation.

The next few months will be critical for Grimes who is closing in on being unrestricted in his movements and work load.

"At nine months, the doctors told me I should be mostly recovered," Grimes explained. "That will be a month before fall camp (at Ohio State). At 11 months, you're basically one-hundred percent, I'll be like 98-percent, but (Ohio State) will be careful with my reps. At 12 months, I shouldn't be limited in what I can do, that should be about the middle of the football season, it will be like it was last year with Nick. I can't wait to get back."

Grimes has been working with the same trainers and medical staff that helped Nick Bosa through his recovery a year ago.
