Video: Ryan Jacoby paving the way

Friday night saw the Mentor (Ohio) football team take its first loss of the season, falling to Solon 29-28 in overtime. But Ohio State offensive line commit Ryan Jacoby continued to show why the Buckeyes offered him early in the process and took his commitment. The senior tackle helped pave the way for a 200-yard rushing night from junior running back Brian Trobel.

BuckeyeGrove.com was on hand at Jacoby's game on Friday night and shot these video highlights.

Givler's comment

Ryan Jacoby is a bit of a different type of lineman than the Buckeyes have landed recently. Unlike guys like Wyatt Davis or Josh Myers, Jacoby does not overwhelm his opponents with strength. He's not a classic mauler who is going to have that viral video of him blocking guys eight yards into the back of the end zone and pancaking them.

What he does do, at a very high level, is use his quickness and technique to out-maneuver opposing defensive linemen. On Friday night, many of Mentor's touchdowns and big runs came right behind Jacoby on the left side because he won the battle using outstanding positioning and technique.

In that regard, he has a little bit of Jamarco Jones in him as Jones was never a guy who really bullied people but was always incredibly sound technically and just very steady as both a run and pass blocker.

I continue to like a lot of the things that I see out of Jacoby and think with a year in the strength and conditioning program, he can become a very good player at Ohio State at either tackle or guard.
