COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State football players Jake Stoneburner and Jack Mewhort have both been removed from their scholarships for the summer term of classes and will have to pay their own way before trying to regain those scholarships for the fall semester.

The university released a statement from head coach Urban Meyer on Friday night updating the status of the two players who were both suspended indefinitely after being charged with obstructing official business by Shawnee Hills police earlier in the month of June.

"We are disappointed with the decisions made recently by two of our football players," Meyer said in a university released statement. "Jake Stoneburner and Jack Mewhort will each be removed from athletic scholarship beginning with the summer term, and they will continue to be suspended from team activities until stipulations are successfully met. They will have an opportunity to return to the team in good standing following the summer session."

Stoneburner, a senior tight end, and Mewhort, a junior offensive tackle are both currently listed as starters at their respective positions but will have to earn their way back into good graces. By being held out of team activities the pair will not be able to work out with teammates during the summer off-season period and will have to train on their own. A source close to the program has told BuckeyeGrove.com that they believe that the pair will be able to use the football facilities however.

On the legal side of things the charges of obstructing official business have now been lessened to disorderly conduct for the pair according to the Delaware County Municipal Court website and both players are showing unpaid balances of $299 for fines and court costs. The two players both entered not guilty pleas on the initial charges. According to the court website the status of each case is now "finished" pending payments being made.
Ohio State has made the move to semesters and fall semester 2012 begins on August 22nd and the first game of the season is September 1st against Miami (Ohio). With Big Ten Football Media Days taking place at the end of July it is unlikely that either player will represent the team when Meyer makes his debut in front of the conference media in Chicago (Ill.).
