Even though Marcus Williamson's profile lists him being out of Bradenton (Fla.) and IMG Academy, make no mistake that the former Westerville (Ohio) South high school star is very much an Ohioan and now being a part of the Ohio State program means the world to the four-star cornerback.
Williamson committed to the Buckeyes in April of 2015 and his dream has been realized of playing for the Buckeyes even if he did get a bit of a head start by enrolling early at Ohio State and has actually been taking classes for nearly a month with the Buckeyes.
The 5-foot-10, 175-pounder held offers from some of the region's top schools before committing to the Buckeyes. Williamson saw an opportunity to head to head to IMG for his senior season and was a big Buckeye recruiter at one of the nation's top programs during his time on the Gulf Coast of Florida.
But that is now in the past and Williamson, along with eight other early enrollees are now already on campus and part of a 20-man (pending a couple of decisions left to be made including the likes of Thayer Munford, Marvin Wilson and Jay Tufele).
What are the Buckeyes getting in Williamson? He as asked to put it in his own words.
"A smart football player, hard-working, just having a passion for the game," Williamson said in a video produced by Ohio State Football upon enrolling for the start of the January semester. "I think that is what I bring to it."
BuckeyeGrove.com recruiting analyst Marc Givler agrees.
"Williamson is a pure corner in every sense of the term," Givler said. "He is a cover first prospect that can really flip his hips and change directions, allowing him to lock up the bigger receivers but also the smaller slot types. Williamson is an explosive athlete that hits his top speed quickly, arguably the most important attribute that a corner needs to have at the higher levels of the sport."
The goals are high for Williamson and he is going to see some great competition, not only throughout the cornerbacks room but just within his own recruiting class which holds six talented defensive backs.
"I want to be the best corner to walk through here," Williamson said. "I think everybody that steps through here should want to be the best at what they do. That is why you come to Ohio State, to be great. So whatever it takes."
Many schools claim to be "DB U" but Ohio State has a nice little claim for that title at this point with the amount of defensive backs that have been drafted in recent years and with three more looking to be early round picks, the bar has been set and Williamson hopes to be able to live up to that bar.
"It is a first-round standard around here and I want to be next in line of the (Bradley) Robys, the (Eli) Apples, the guys coming out in 2016," Williamson said.
Today is a day for fun but the work has already started.
"I am just glad to be here and am ready to work and see where coach Mick (Marotti) and coach (Urban) Meyer take me," Williamson said.
