The recruitment of IMG Academy (Fla.) defensive back Lejond Cavazos was one of the more interesting ones to follow for Ohio State fans in the 2020 cycle. The Buckeyes landed his verbal commitment during the summer before his junior season and he immediately went to work on the recruiting trail, becoming an ace recruiter to help the Buckeyes' efforts.

When Urban Meyer suddenly retired last December, Cavazos opened his recruiting process and took visits to other programs, while always keeping close contact with Ohio State. After forging a strong relationship with new head coach Ryan Day and first-year co-defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, Cavazos committed to Ohio State again this past summer.

Cavazos once again lost his position coach when Hafley took the Boston College job over the weekend. This time, however, there was no wavering from Cavazos who promptly reaffirmed his pledge to the Buckeyes.

On Wednesday Cavazos was one of the first to get his letter of intent signed and sent in.

"It's honestly a blessing to finally sign with The Ohio State University," Cavazos told BuckeyeGrove.com. "I feel like I've been committed forever and signing on the dotted line is just the next step in getting to where I want to be at."

Givler's Thoughts

Cavazos adjusted nicely to cornerback this fall after playing more of a single high safety role for IMG his junior season. While Cavazos is a little bit green as a cornerback, and a football player in general, he also possesses one of the highest ceilings of any prospect the Buckeyes landed in the 2020 class.

With a year or two of good coaching, Cavazos' elite athleticism could blossom into a high level cornerback. In a landscape that is desperate for 6-foot corners with speed, Cavazos is an extremely intriguing prospect.

Adding to his value to the class is that he has the size, athleticism, and experience playing different positions, to help Ohio State out just about anywhere in the secondary, much like Shaun Wade in that regard.
