Signed: Julian Fleming

Ohio State will sign what just about everyone believes is the nation's best wide receivers class on Wednesday. Julian Fleming is the highest rated of the bunch as the nation's top-ranked prospect at his position, something he has held onto for several months now. Fleming signed and sent his LOI to Ohio State on Wednesday morning.

Fleming's commitment and signature would be a big deal in any environment as the nation's top rated receiver prospect and a top 10 overall prospect in the class. But it's the way Ohio State landed him that makes him one of the most highly anticipated incoming freshmen in recent years.

Growing up in the heart of Penn State country, Fleming made more than a dozen visits to Penn State's campus during the recruiting process. Historically those kids go to Penn State, but Fleming didn't.

Persistence paid off for the Buckeyes here, as receivers coach Brian Hartline built a tight relationship with the five-star prospect from day one. That relationship propelled Ohio State past the Nittany Lions as well as Clemson, Georgia, Alabama, and many others to give Ohio State a win in one of the biggest national recruiting battles of the 2020 cycle.

Givler's Thoughts

Brian Hartline has to be excited about all of the talent he is going to be able to mold in this 2020 recruiting class. Fleming is perhaps the best combination of size and speed of the group and will arrive on campus about as physically ready to go as can be expected.

It typically takes a little bit of time for receivers to find their footing and so I expect Fleming to get his feet wet early and then have more and more responsibility heaped on him, much how the Buckeyes handled Garrett Wilson this season. But there is no question that with what Ohio State is set to lose at receiver this season and with Fleming's natural talents and college-ready body, that he's a good bet to work his way into the rotation as a true freshman.
