Signed: Jaxon Smith-Njigba

Ohio State may have made its best evaluation of the recruiting process in Rockwall (Texas) wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba. The Buckeyes identified the now five-star prospect early on before he was even a four-star guy and made him a priority before local programs like Texas.

That early commitment to Smith-Njigba by Brian Hartline and the offensive staff paid monster dividends as the Rivals100 talent committed to the Buckeyes during his junior season, not long after an unofficial visit to Columbus.

While programs like Texas would ultimately come into the picture and try to sway Smith-Njigba from his pledge to Ohio State, there were never any visits made beyond the trips that he and his family made to Columbus.

On Wednesday morning, Smith-Njigba sent his LOI to Ohio State just minutes after the window to do so opened up and the Buckeyes are getting one heck of a player in the No. 2 ranked prospect in Texas and the No. 4 receiver nationally.

Givler's Thoughts

Hard to say enough good things about Smith-Njigba. This is a complete wide receiver who can line up at any of the receiver spots for the Buckeyes. His best asset is his quickness and burst, he can explode to top speed in an instant and his ability to cut and change directions allows him to create tremendous separation even in tight areas.

Smith-Njigba also possesses some of the surest hands in this class nationally. Whether it's making highlight reel grabs along the sideline or that tough catch in traffic over the middle, Smith-Njigba is as reliable a pass-catcher as the Buckeyes have signed.

The five-star prospect reminds me a ton of K.J. Hill and may be an even better athlete coming out of high school. Should be an early contributor for the Buckeyes.
