Defensive tackle recruiting is at a premium every year and the Buckeyes were able to address some major needs with the addition of Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman tackle Haskell Garrett. Garrett committed to the Buckeyes in February of 2016 but now, almost a year to the date, he is signed and locked in to be a member of Ohio State's class of 2017.

Several teams made pushes to see if they could move the 6-foot-2, 286-pounder off of his Ohio State pledge but to the four-star's credit, once he was committed, he stayed committed.

Garrett was the first of the Bishop Gorman players to commit to the Buckeyes (Ohio State did end up signing Garrett's quarterback, Tate Martell, but was unable to hold on to the commitment of Tyjon Lindsey) and it came as a bit of a shock.

"It was kind of an emotional decision and a factual decision," said Garrett. "When you think of Ohio State you just think about football and a great school and you think Urban Meyer. His resume and what he does for his players to prepare them both on and off the field, to where their future lasts after college. Just saying 'Urban Meyer' it speaks for itself, his resume speaks for itself. There's nothing really negative that you can speak about their program or their school, it's one of those schools that's just as good as all of the other high tradition schools in America."

The new Buckeyes defensive tackle had offers from the likes of Notre Dame, Nebraska, Penn State, Texas A&M, USC and Washington to just name a few. But Garrett went to Twitter to announce the news and turn the Ohio State recruiting beat on its ear to find out more about the star player.

The Buckeyes are not set to lose anyone on the interior defensive line but Garrett will likely fit into defensive line coach Larry Johnson's immediate plans as the Buckeyes look to build off of a solid defensive line effort in 2016.

Garrett has shown through is career to be a beast against the run and a player who can use his quickness and technique to shed blocks and get penetration against unsuspecting offensive linemen.

"Garrett is a well-rounded prospect that can play in all situations," BuckeyeGrove.com recruiting analyst Marc Givler said. "He can get after the quarterback, the can play the run and he is the type of interior player that when Ohio State goes to the three-man fronts in third and long situations, he could stay in the game as the interior pass rusher in those fronts."

National Signing Day starts a new chapter in Haskell's book and being a part of the Ohio State program means a lot to the four-star standout.
