Sheffield starting to sort things out

ST. SIMON ISLAND, Ga. – Class of 2019 athlete Jashawn Sheffield already has an offer list that any player would be jealous of with almost a full two years of recruiting left. The 6-foot-2, 175-pounder already can pretty much name his school and has seen interest from most of the major programs in the nation, even if he is extremely limited by where the recruiting calendar sits for a player in his class at this time.

Rivals.com has noticed Sheffield as well and has installed him as an early four-star in the class of 2019 and the ceiling is high for the two-way player who has seen time at both slot receiver and safety.

Sheffield has been humble about his success and knows that he is fortunate to be in the position that he is in.

"I really am truly blessed about this," Sheffield said. "I just want to thank God for giving me this opportunity, this ability, everything that he has given me. My mom, dad, coaches, the environment he gave me at Federica (Academy), I want to thank him for all that. Without this it would not be possible."

We had a quick chance to catch up with Sheffield at his school for a few moments. There was not time to go through his entire interest list but he did pick out a few schools to talk about that are catching his eye at this early time.

Ohio State – (Visited for 2017 Spring Game) that visit, I will never forget it because I got to talk to Ezekiel Elliott's dad. They had me talk to his dad and I just learned a bunch of things from him. Right now at the next level, I don't know if I want to play slot or safety but I kind of like safety at Ohio State because their defense is pretty good and I like their defense a lot.

Georgia – Well you know (Richard LeCounte – Sheffield's cousin) he is in my ear. Every time I go somewhere else he might text me like 'Hey, you know you are not going to do that, you are a Dawg at home, this is where you are from'. That is always in the back of my head. I like the atmosphere.

Florida State – I like Florida State, (they) were my favorite school before I had any offers. That was always my dream school. That is the school that I just wanted to go play at.

Clemson – They came here (Tuesday) and I saw (the coach's) big ring, it was shiny and I like that. I talked to coach Scott, he always just tells me to stay humble, be good and keep my grades in order. Focus on being a teenager right now… a student first and then an athlete second.

Sheffield has not given much thought as to how he would like to see his recruiting process to go, he knows that has time. He does want to get back up to Ohio State again soon to take another look at the Buckeyes as he continues to form opinions about schools, especially ones that he cannot get to easily.
