Ohio State spring practice is more than halfway completed and the first two members of the class of 2022 are now officially members of the Buckeyes as signified by the losing of their black stripes.
The announcements were put out on social media on Tuesday morning as both receiver Marvin Harrison and defensive end Jack Sawyer each were able to remove a stripe of black tape from their helmets, a reward for their hard work since joining the program at the first of the year.
Harrison is a 6-foot-3, 202-pound receiver and the son of NFL-great Marvin Harrison, Sr. The former four-star recruit was a member of the Rivals100 as the No. 86 prospect in the nation and is part of a deep receivers room that returns one of the best one-two punches in the nation with Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson.
With the spring move of Gee Scott, Jr. to tight end, that could help accelerate Harrison’s path to the field, if that move sticks as the Buckeyes have been “tinkering” with some things during the 15 spring practices, looking to get the best 11 on the field.
Sawyer came into the Ohio State program with no shortage of praise and accolades as a five-star recruit and one of the top players in the nation according to Rivals.com. Sawyer checks in at 6-foot-4, 240 pounds according to Ohio State’s spring roster and has already been talked about being Ohio State’s next great defensive end.
That is a lot for Sawyer to live up to, having not played a down of college football and missing his senior season as there was question to what Ohio State’s season might look like and the potential of a spring season on the table.
Now Sawyer has taken that valuable first step of losing his stripe and earning the praise of his coaches and teammates as an official member of the Ohio State team.
