The Buckeyes welcomed guard Braxton Beverly on campus over the weekend and there was a strong belief that if an offer came in for the 5-foot-10, 165-pounder than a commitment could quickly follow.

That held true, the offer came from Thad Matta and the Buckeyes and Beverly did not wait long to jump on that offer and is now a member of the Ohio State basketball recruiting class.

"After taking a visit this weekend, going up there and getting to know the coaches and the players and see the campus, everything that is a part of Ohio State, I just feel like it is a great opportunity for me to join them," Beverly told BuckeyeGrove.com on Monday afternoon. "(I am) going to work hard while I am there and get a degree and join one of the best basketball traditions of all-time. It is just very exciting to say that I wanted to join that."

While it was a great visit, Beverly did not jump on the offer immediately however and waited until Monday to make the call for the Buckeyes because he wanted to make sure he had some time to talk with his family.

"I waited until I got home today to announce it," Beverly added. "I wanted to talk to my family and make sure they were all on board for it. Once I decided that was the best opportunity for me, coach Matta texted me and told me he is very excited to start coaching me and for me to get down there and start working. I am really excited for it."

Beverly is originally from Hazard (Ky.) but is playing at Hargrave Military Academy and is part of the class of 2017. Beverly held several mid-major offers before picking up his Ohio State offer but more major programs were starting to take notice and make inquiries on the guard prospect.

What was it about the visit to Ohio State that made them such an appealing option with so many programs on board and many more starting to emerge?

"The support, it was as soon as I got off the plane in Columbus, I saw nothing but Ohio State the entire time," Beverly said. "I saw no other colors. It was great to see when I went to the football game how much support they got at the football game."

Official visits always go well but what was it about this one that meant to much to Beverly?

"Getting to know the coaches and the players, I feel they have a real big interest for me and they really want me to come and work with me and want me to be successful and what is best for me," Beverly said. "That is truly what I want and it made me feel great about coming to school next year there."

Beverly has the ability to score points, he put up 70 in a game once. But that does not mean that he is looking at a career at the "2", but his versatility could give the Buckeyes some options once he joins the team and is well-versed within the program and the offense.

"They have recruited me as a point guard, that is what they want me to come in and play and that is what I do here at school at Hargrave," Beverly said. "If I need to play off the ball as a (shooting guard), I can. It is not like I have to bring the ball up, I can run the floor and spot up and do whatever. But my main focus is being a point guard and being a leader out on the floor."

Beverly is the second member of the class of 2017 for the Buckeyes and joins Kaleb Wesson in the class.
