There was fleeting promise of a brave new tomorrow for the Maryland Terrapins last season, with an exciting new quarterback under center and a couple explosive offensive performances that turned into big wins over Minnesota and Penn State in consecutive weeks.
Looking back though, those two games were the lone highlights in a COVID-plagued season that also saw many of the same lows that have been common for a Maryland program that has been to just two bowl games since joining the Big Ten.
The Terrapins were scheduled to play the Buckeyes on the heels of their back-to-back impressive defeats of those aforementioned Big Ten foes this past season, but COVID-19 canceled the contest and seemed to sap Maryland of all its momentum thereafter.
Now, I fear for Terps fans that the confidence they might have had going into a clash with the Buckeyes last year may no longer remain in 2021, unless Mike Locksley’s team can perform with more consistency next season. However, its potential for big plays in the passing game could make things interesting.
