Pryor makes the call

If the old saying of Good things come to those who wait holds true then the Buckeyes will have a good one in quarterback Terrelle Pryor who needed 42 extra days to make his decision. On Wednesday afternoon the nation's top rated recruit for the class of 2008 made it official in front of friends and family at his high school auditorium in Jeannette (Pa.).

The 6-foot-6, 235-pound 5-star quarterback was looking at Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State and Oregon among many of the nation's top schools but ultimately picked the Buckeyes partly based on relationships that he had built with fellow recruits in the Buckeye recruiting class.

Pryor is a dual-threat quarterback from the word go in rushing for 1,899 yards and 36 touchdowns to go along with 1,889 passing yards and 23 touchdowns via the air en route to leading his Jeannette high school team to a state championship. Pryor is also an accomplished basketball player and was a key contributor in recently wrapping up a state title on the hardwood as well.

The newest Buckeye will figure to jump right into the mix with only three scholarship (including Pryor) quarterbacks on the roster and could see playing time along with starter Todd Boeckman and key reserve Antonio Henton.

It was believed that if Pryor would have made a decision on National Signing Day that he would have selected the Buckeyes at that point but Pryor decided along with his family and advisors to slow things down and take another look at several of the top schools on his list.

Pryor never did make it to State College (Pa.) for an official visit despite making several unofficial visits during the past several years. The top-rated quarterback had also flirted with the Oregon Ducks but did not take a trip out to Eugene (Ore.) as well.

It was reported earlier in the week that Pryor was down to two schools and would decide this week. While Pryor did not announce who the two finalists were it was believed that it came down to the Buckeyes and the Wolverines. Rich Rodriguez was a key part to Pryor's interest while he was still the head coach of West Virginia and once Rodriguez took the job in Ann Arbor (Mich.) there was a strong belief that the Wolverines could move into good shape for landing Pryor based on their offensive set and depth chart.
