ATLANTA, Ga. - There are three guarantees in life: Death, taxes and a high school prospect’s recruitment not being over until he signs his NLI.

That latter part rings true every single cycle, and it adds drama all the way up until they put pen to paper on their signing day, even if they’ve been committed for most of the process.

So, while Mykel Williams has a top five that consists of Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, LSU and USC, he should not be written off just yet, as is evident by our conversation below.

While speaking with BuckeyeGrove at the Under Armour All-America Camp in Atlanta on Sunday, Williams opened up about why Ryan Day’s program is on the outside looking in.

“They dropped out,” Williams said of the Buckeyes. “They were high on me. I almost… they were high on me for a minute, but we went months without talking. They just fell off.”

Those comments were interesting as Williams was seemingly high on Ohio State at one point in time. They did enough work to land in his top 10 earlier this year, but communication with him halted for some reason.

Even with contact between him and the staff having slowed down tremendously for a period of time, Williams did speak with the coaches earlier this month.

“Last week or two weeks ago,” Williams said of the last time he’s heard from tOSU’s staff. “[The message is] that they still want me there. I’m still high on their list.”
