Ohio State and Michigan offer Ohio sophomore

Ohio's class of 2019 has some very talented defensive lineman and one of them is having a huge week on the recruiting front. Cincinnati (Ohio) Walnut Hills defensive tackle Jowon Briggs has accumulated approximately half a dozen offers already, but landed two huge ones in the past 48 hours with both Michigan and Ohio State coming through.

The 6-foot-3, 275-pound prospect has handled the recent attention with a maturity beyond his years.

"At the moment, it really means a lot," said Briggs of the half dozen offers he has received. "But I know that I have to keep moving forward. I have to keep on my grades and I can't really focus (on the offers) right now. I can't really focus on it too much right now just seeing as how I am a sophomore and a few years away from college."

But for an Ohio prospect to land an offer from Ohio State so early in the process, it does make Briggs take a step back. Ohio State assistant Kerry Coombs is already on the case for Briggs.

"To put it simply, it's Thee Ohio State," Briggs said. "It's the school of Ohio. When you think of Ohio, you think of Ohio State. It's a big deal."

Landing an offer from another Midwest power in Michigan also gave Briggs a great feeling.

"It was kind of like the same thing (as Ohio State)," he said. "When you think of the state of Michigan, you think of the University of Michigan, they represent their state in a big way. It's like, not only do people here at home know about me, but people in another state know who I am now."

Briggs recently dropped his mid-season film which has helped him accumulate offers. The quickness and power that college defensive line coaches are looking for are evident.

"I've been told that I have quick hands and that I'm strong," he said. "I guess it shows on film. "

Briggs also holds early offers from Cincinnati, Iowa State, Miami (Ohio) and Wisconsin. He currently does not have any visits scheduled and says his two main focuses right now are on his season and maintaining a 3.0 grade point average.
