Ohio State was able to host a group of talented underclassmen prospects during the last week of July, including Powder Springs (Ga.) McEachern linebacker Chief Borders. Borders has been a hot name in recent months, racking up nearly 20 scholarship offers.
The 6-foot-5, 228-pound prospect is one of Georgia's top rising juniors, but has plenty of ties to the Midwest, having moved to Georgia from the Chicago area. That time spent living in the Midwest gave him an appreciation for the Ohio State program.
"I followed Ohio State then, back when Zeke the Freak (Ezekiel Elliott) was there," Borders said. "They are all about their business at Ohio State. I love how they have a medical center on campus and everything, that (is helpful for) medical majors."
Seeing the medical campus was just one of a few highlights for Borders on his recent visit.
"It was a beautiful visit," he said. "I loved every bit of it. I loved how I got to see the medical center and got to talk to coach Al Washington about how I would fit into the program. And I definitely enjoyed trying on the uniforms."
Borders left campus without an offer, but that changed in short order. He picked one up on Monday night from the Buckeyes.
"I called coach Washington and he said that I was a stellar student-athlete, on and off the field," Borders recalled. "And then he offered me a full ride scholarship to The Ohio State University."
Borders is already working on a return visit to Columbus. He is tentatively scheduled to make another unofficial visit in November when the Buckeyes host Penn State.
