Nester headed to the state semi's

Several Ohio State commits are still in the mix for a state championship this fall, including the Buckeyes' only pledge in the 2019 class, Huntington (WV) Spring Valley offensive lineman Doug Nester. The Rivals100 product and his team earned a hard-fought victory over rival Cabell-Midland on Saturday, winning 15-0 and advancing to the state semi-finals.

"It feels amazing," said Nester after the game. "Especially doing it against this team, against our rivals. Beating them twice in a year is really hard to do."

Nester did his part on both sides of the ball, leaving the field only for certain special teams as he lined up mostly at right tackle on offense and defensive tackle on defense. Nester has been playing both ways all season, but these physical playoff games take things up a notch.

"It has been like that all year," he explained on playing both ways. "It was a very physical game. You get really tired, really drained, it's hard. But at halftime you get a break and you just have to come back out and do it again."

Since giving his commitment to Ohio State before the season, Nester has had no second thoughts about his decision to become a Buckeye. He has visited a couple of times during the fall, only reinforcing some of the things he liked about Ohio State when he made his choice.

"The comfort level and Ohio State was just one of my favorite schools since I was little," he explained. "It was a dream school. I also didn't want to go far from home, it's just a two-hour trip."

Ohio State's season has been an interesting one, a bit of a roller coaster ride at times. But Nester has mostly liked what he has seen out of the team both in his in-person visits and watching on television.

"They are playing great," he said. "There was just that one loss to Iowa that hurt them, but they came back the next week and showed what they had. Hopefully they can keep this going and win the Big Ten."

Nester and Spring Valley will face Huntington High this weekend which also features a class of 2019 Ohio State offensive line target in Darnell Wright.
