COLUMBUS, Ohio- Jamarco Jones waited his turn. Looking back at his career in an Ohio State uniform, Jones was a continuation of the successful offensive tackles that came before him.

As the No. 94th prospect in the Rivals 100 and the No. 7 offensive tackle prospect in the nation, the four-star recruit out of De La Salle High School in Chicago was pursued by many top end teams, including Big Ten teams such as Wisconsin and Michigan to storied programs such as Oklahoma and Florida State.

However, Jones had two teams pursuing him right to the very end in Michigan State and Ohio State. Even with the Spartans pushing very hard for him at the very end of his recruitment, he picked the Buckeyes in June 2013, becoming a part of the same class as fellow offensive linemen Demetrius Knox and Brady Taylor.

Jones did not immediately receive playing time when he arrived in Columbus in 2014 for his first season. The offensive tackle, on the same roster as Taylor Decker and Pat Elflein, layed in 10 games as a freshman, playing 19 offensive snaps in the Buckeyes' 56-17 win over Rutgers. In 2015, Jones earned more playing time, becoming the first offensive lineman off the bench for Ohio State.

With Decker becoming a first round draft pick to the Detroit Lions after the 2015 season, Jones moved onto the Ohio State offensive line as one of three new starters. With Mike Weber as the main running back, the Buckeyes led the Big Ten in rushing, averaging 245.2 yards per game with backs recording 5.5 yards per carry. That season, Jones and the rest of the line were one of three finalists for the Joe Moore Offensive Line of the Year award.

In 2017, Jones helped Ohio State lead the Big Ten in rushing for the second straight season. With Weber, J.K. Dobbins and quarterback J.T. Barrett leading the charge, the Buckeyes averaged 243.2 yards, finishing second in the conference with 34 touchdowns. Also, the Buckeyes gave up an average of 1.6 sacks per game, which ranked third in the Big Ten.

With two seasons as a starting offensive tackle for Ohio State, Jones is already in good company with the NFL level talent that came before him. At 6'5", 310 pounds, he has the body for a tackle at the next level. With a deep class for the 2018 Draft, Jones is ranked as the No. 20 offensive tackle according to WalterFootball.com.
