Mitchell is a priority target for the Buckeyes

One of Ohio State's top basketball recruiting targets, regardless of class, is 2019 Gahanna (Ohio) Lincoln wing Jordan Mitchell. The 6-foot-6 prospect contributed 18 points on Sunday in a win for the Lions over Dayton Thurgood Marshall at the Flyin' to the Hoop Invitational.

Mitchell's game has picked up recently after his young team got off to a slow start to the season.

"I've been playing pretty good," said Mitchell. "I'm just trying to make progress through the season, we kind of started out slow and we were struggling, but with these two wins that we just got in a row, we should get back on top."

Last year, Mitchell played on a veteran Gahanna team that featured current Michigan State big man Nick Ward and several other seniors. This year, it is Mitchell's team and it is a young group. The Rivals100 prospect has been relied on for leadership this year and is working on improving his outside game.

"I've been working to get my jump shot more consistent," he said. "I want to be more consistent with my catch and shoot and everything."

Mitchell holds early offers from Ohio State, Florida, Xavier, and others and the interest is starting to roll in from some of the nation's top programs.

"I've been getting a lot of mail from Wisconsin, Kansas, Indiana, Michigan, and Xavier even though they offered me they've been sending me stuff."

Ohio State is just down the road from Gahanna so it's no surprise that Mitchell has taken in a couple of games this year. His relationship with the Buckeye coaching staff continues to improve.

"I'm starting to talk to the coaching staff more often and they are starting to come see me more," Mitchell said of the Buckeyes. "We're building more of a relationship."

Mitchell is a long way from needing to make a decision but is looking at two key factors as he evaluates the schools recruiting him.

"Just how I fit best into the system," he explained. "I'm looking at academics too."

Mitchell is the No. 38 overall prospect in the 2019 class according to Rivals.com.
