Alan Major is getting back into the swing of things with the Buckeyes and could not be happier to be taking another run with Ohio State.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Alan Major has sat in front of the Ohio State media before, so Thursday was not a new experience for Ohio State's new Director of Recruiting and Player Personnel but things have changed in the several years since Major has roamed the hallways of Value City Arena.

"Once I walked in the building and tried to find my way around, a lot of this was not here when I was here before," Major said. "I have already gotten lost a couple of times. Getting around town I am fine, once I get the building figured out, I will be good."

Major joined the Ohio State program initially when Thad Matta took over the Ohio State program after following Matta from Xavier during a previous stop.

Major would go on to leave Ohio State to take the head coaching job at Charlotte and would coach there for several years before health concerns led to Major's departure.

Now Major is back in Columbus and while he will not have an on-court (gameday) coaching position and won't be on the road recruiting, he is looking forward to the impact that he can have on the program and on the lives of the Ohio State players.

"Making each guy my own individual project. Sitting down with each player and through a lot of conversation and time and a lot trust, it is obviously not something that happens overnight," Major said. "Just getting them to a point where they can get a snapshot of what the best version of them looks like. As a ballplayer, as a player, as a student and all of those things are interconnected."

Major joked that he made his way from dealing with the movers to Value City Arena to meet with the media. Over the last couple of days, he has had some chances to meet the team and that is something that means a lot to Major.

"Being around the last couple of days, getting to know them," Major said. "I am probably more excited about that than anything, just from the standpoint of taking some time and getting to know them."

The Buckeyes have already had to turn over two other positions with the departures of Jeff Boals and Jake Dielber and additions of Chris Jent and Kyle Davis. Is the hope of an on-court coaching job something in the offing for Major with taking this position that is considered to be more administrative?

"If it happens, we really did not go that far," Major said. "It was more about really focusing on this right now. That was not the secret motivation for doing it, if it happens then great. The more you learn in this profession you take it a year at a time and never know what can happen."

One thing was for certain however. It did not take Major long to accept Matta's job offer.

"One thing led to another and it felt right for me," Major said. "This is like reconnecting with an old girlfriend, one that you liked. It was a no-brainer. It is such a special place, it had a piece of my heart for six years."
