The Buckeyes are back in the Big Dance and it will be a quick turnaround as Ohio State is back in action on Friday with a 2nd round game against the Gaels of Iona (7:15 pm EDT - CBS Sports). What may be the best news for Ohio State fans within the state of Ohio is the location with Ohio State starting action in Dayton, an easy drive from Columbus for fans to root on the Big Ten Tournament champions.
Joining Ohio State in the venue will be Notre Dame, Iowa State and Iona in the South Regional while Indiana, NC State, Temple and a play-in winner will be in the East Regional. With three high profile regional teams in the area, demand for tickets will be high and our friends over at SeatGeek.com have put together some numbers to show just how hot a ticket this will be.
The action in Dayton has generated enough interest to warrant the third most expensive ticket (all-sessions) at the time of print at $429.60 per ticket. Only Kansas City ($491) and Salt Lake City ($431) check in higher. Tickets for the Dayton venue rose 19-percent after the time that the brackets were released.
Another thing to take into consideration in the price of tickets in Dayton is the size of UD Arena. While venues like Rupp Arena (Lexington, Ky.) can seat 23,500 basketball fans, UD Arena only has a capacity of 13,409 and that makes it 3,250 seats smaller than the next smallest venue (Frank Erwin Center - Austin, Texas).
The least expensive seat in the building is $323 (Section 403 Row K) making Dayton the second most expensive location to get a seat in the first round. The best ticket available in the lower bowl costs $644 (Section 215, Row A). Tickets to Friday's afternoon session in Dayton with Indiana, NC State and Temple have an average price of $129, making those tickets the second most expensive of all morning sessions in the Second Round. By comparison, tickets to the Friday evening session with Ohio State, Notre Dame, Iona and Iowa State are selling for an average of $144 per seat, which ranks as the third most expensive afternoon session of the Second Round. Sunday's Third Round session, which will likely host both Ohio State and Indiana, currently has an average ticket price of $190.
