Everyone was wondering if the Buckeyes would pick up a commitment the weekend of Friday Night Lights and they did, but it didn't happen to be a player who made their way to Columbus for the event. One-time Texas Longhorns commit Demetrius Knox selected the Buckeyes to become the 15th member of the class of 2014 and the 4th offensive lineman in the class.
The new Buckeye confirmed his commitment to BuckeyeGrove.com via text message.
Knox is rated as the No. 1 guard in the class of 2014 by Rivals.com and is a member of the Rivals100 (checks in at No. 83 nationally). Knox was a one-time member of the Texas Longhorns' class but decided to open things back up and appeared to be down to Ohio State and UCLA but remained open to several other schools before deciding to end it on Sunday.
Knox checks in at 6-foot-4, 287 pounds and has really turned it up as he gets ready for his senior year. He was one of the top offensive linemen at the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge presented by Under Armour at Soldier Field over the summer and turned a lot of heads with his footwork and power. Knox had more than two dozen offers reported and likely could have been in the 30-40 range when you factored in non-BCS schools who had shown interest.
We will have more on this breaking news through the evening including why now was the right time and what this means for the Buckeyes.
