COLUMBUS, Ohio - According to a report from Yahoo Sports' Pete Thamel, Ohio State's assistant defensive coordinator, cornerbacks and special teams coach Kerry Coombs is leaving Ohio State for a job with the Tennessee Titans. Coombs is associated with newly named Titans head coach Mike Vrabel, who played for the Buckeyes from 1993 to 1996.
Thamel tweeted about the development on Wednesday.
Vrabel coached at Ohio State from 2011 to 2013, afterwards becoming the Houston Texans linebackers coach before moving up to defensive coordinator last season. He was named the Titans' head coach on Jan. 20.
Coombs has been with Ohio state since 2012, arriving with Urban Meyer to coach the cornerbacks. Over that course of time, the Buckeyes put forth stellar pass defense numbers overall, producing NFL talents like Bradley Roby, Eli Apple, Doran Grant, Gareon Conley and Marcus Lattimore.
With Coombs on the move, newly signed co-defensive coordinator Alex Grinch could see an increase in his workload in his first season with Ohio State.
