Jones focused on surrounding himself with top talent

FRANKLIN, Ga. – Emory Jones has seen a lot happen over the last year since the last time we saw him on the Southern Swing. We saw him the day before Ohio State came to campus to see him throw and it did not take long for an offer to come and that was followed up by a commitment from the five-star quarterback.

Fast forward to today and Jones is one of Ohio State's best recruiters, at least in terms of from a player level. Jones has been seen on social media working on recruits for months, urging them to consider and ultimately commit to Ohio State. But that is only part of the work that Jones has put in.

"We are in a big group text," Jones said. "All of the commits are in there, we have a lot of other uncommitted prospects in there that we are looking to try and get."

Are things trending the right way?

"Yeah, definitely," Jones said.

One player that Jones worked hard on was Brenton Cox, the talented defensive lineman out of Stockbridge (Ga.). Did Jones know that one was coming?

"I actually knew," Jones said. "We were up there for the spring game and I knew it was going to happen."

What are the Buckeyes getting with Cox, at least in the eyes of an offensive player like Jones?

"He is a Georgia boy, we have that type of swag," Jones said. "He is a big and strong dude, fast off the line. He can use his hands really well."

Even with all of the success as a recruiter, aiding the coaching staff in the pursuit of top talent, Jones has not lost sight that this has been a whirlwind year for him. He knows that he is in a fortunate position and if he can help the Buckeyes build on one of the nation's top classes, that is all the better.

"It is a blessing," Jones said. "I am just trying to recruit more. Get the best of the best from anywhere, it does not matter which state. I have some people that I am talking to in Georgia right now."
