Jones enjoying big senior season

Perhaps the quietest recruit in Ohio State's 2018 class, Brooklyn (NY) Erasmus Hall offensive lineman Matthew Jones prefers to let his play do the talking. Jones has been starring at left tackle this fall for E-Hall, and on Sunday his team moved its record to 4-0 on the season with a blowout win over Fort Hamilton.

Jones has been enjoying an impressive senior season both individually and from a team standpoint and he has really enjoyed being around this group of teammates as they go for another City championship.

"It's going pretty good," said Jones of his season. "Everybody has the same mindset. So at practice everybody works hard and when the game comes, we dominate."

Jones has bounced around throughout his career, playing on both sides of the line and wherever his team needs him. He has settled in on the offensive line now and is taking well to his left tackle position. A lot of work on his feet in the off-season have allowed him to make tremendous strides in his pass sets.

"I'm working on my fundamentals, mostly my footwork," he said. "That's one big thing."

While Jones is very quiet by nature, he has kept in constant communication with Ohio State since his summer commitment. That pledge is as solid as ever and there are no plans to look around for the four-star prospect.

"Yes I have, I've been talking to coach Stud a lot," he said. "He's just telling me to have a strong season and that he hopes to see me soon."

In fact, Jones will be back in Columbus in just a few days.

"I'll be there next week when they play Maryland," he said. "That's going to be my official visit."

Jones is looking forward to getting an up close look at the team, but has been impressed with what he has seen so far. Watching the players and coaches has only reaffirmed his belief that Ohio State was the right choice.

"To me they look fantastic," he said. "Ohio State always dominates and their coaching staff is great. That's the family for me."

Jones will sign early with Ohio State and is set to enroll in January.
