CHICAGO – Joey Bosa will be taking his sack shrug to San Diego as he was selected by the Chargers with the 3rd pick of the first round in the 2016 NFL Draft. Bosa is just one of many Ohio State Buckeyes that will hear their name called in the next three days as the Buckeyes look to set records with one of that nation's most prolific draft classes.
Bosa continues the family line in the NFL with both father (John Bosa) and uncle (Eric Kumerow) being selected in the first round as well.
The new Charger had a stalwart career with the Buckeyes in three seasons with 150 career tackles, 50.5 tackles for loss and 26 sacks. Bosa's 2014 campaign was the best of the bunch when he had 13.5 sacks and 21.5 tackles for loss during Ohio State's National Championship run.
There was a great deal of speculation on how high Bosa may go in the draft. The 6-footo-5, 269-pounder did not put up the numbers that many expected at the NFL Scouting Combine with a 40-yard dash in the 4.8 second range and 24 bench reps (of 225 pounds). Bosa bettered both at the Ohio State Pro Day by running a 4.77 and throwing up 28 bench reps.
Bosa's best calling card was his game tape and there was plenty of it for the two-time All-American and the Chargers brass agreed. Bosa was often the target of double and triple teams and even that did not slow down Bosa.
