Buckeyes land big-time speedster

Williams is the first commit the Buckeyes have landed since Urban Meyer's return.
Williams is the first commit the Buckeyes have landed since Urban Meyer's return.

Nearly two months to the day since Ohio State last received a verbal commitment, the Buckeyes are back on the board with St. Louis (Mo.) Cardinal Ritter wide receiver Jameson Williams. The four-star prospect announced his verbal pledge to Ohio State on Friday afternoon, choosing the Buckeyes over Alabama, Nebraska, Oregon, and UCLA and becoming commitment No. 15 in the 2019 recruiting class.

Williams' commitment ends a mini-drought of sorts for the Buckeyes who went the month of August and nearly the entirety of September without adding a commitment, due in part to Urban Meyer's paid leave of absence and subsequent suspension.

But Williams has now broken the ice for Meyer and the Buckeyes and the fact that he's the first one to jump into the fold since Meyer's return is not much of a surprise. The Rivals250 product has consistently listed Ohio State as the team to beat in his recruitment over the past several months.

After making his official visit to Columbus in late June, the Buckeyes remained in the lead. Even through a coaching change at the wide receiver position, Ohio State continued to press hard for Williams, who has listed his relationship with Urban Meyer as perhaps the top factor in his affinity for the Buckeyes.

Williams joins Rivals100 product Garrett Wilson to form a pretty impressive duo at wide receiver for Ohio State's 2019 class. Williams is one of the nation's fastest prospects and has been timed as low as 10.54 seconds in the 100-meter dash.

BuckeyeGrove.com will have more on Williams' commitment shortly.
