There is no denying that the Ohio State Buckeyes have put a premium on defensive line recruiting under Urban Meyer and on Thursday evening the Buckeyes picked up a big one with the commitment of Norfolk (Va.) Lake Taylor defensive end Jalyn Holmes. The No. 48 rated player by Rivals.com made the announcement moments ago on Thursday evening, surrounded by his teammates and coaches and Rivals.com was invited to be a part of the big announcement.

The new Buckeye checks in at 6-foot-5 and 235 pounds and is the No. 3 rated weakside defensive end by Rivals.com. He selected Ohio State over two other finalists that included Florida State and Clemson. He is the 11th commitment for Ohio State in the class of 2014.
"I think my strength as a player is just coming off the ball fast and motivating my teammates to play hard, and that motivates me," Holmes told Rivals.com in the spring about his own personal game. "I try to be a vocal leader and lead the way. I still can work on a lot of things, my speed and everything overall and feel I can get better."

Holmes visited Ohio State this past week and had a chance to check out the campus and meet with Meyer and area-recruiter Zach Smith and by all accounts had an unbelievable visit. It was believed that both the Seminoles and Tigers would get another visit from Holmes before a decision would be made but the Buckeye visit put Ohio State over the top and Holmes was ready to make his decision, even if it took until Thursday for it to be publicly known.

The Buckeyes now have two commits on the defensive line with Dylan Thompson out of the greater Chicago-area in the class. Dante Booker is currently listed as a linebacker but could eventually move to the line as well.

We will have much more on this exciting news for the Buckeyes as they add a 4-star defensive lineman to the class coming up very soon. Be sure to keep it locked in here to BuckeyeGrove.com for more on Holmes and coverage of Friday's upcoming camp at Ohio State with many top targets planning on being in Columbus and on campus.
