Grimes makes it look easy

As the nation's top wide receiver prospect, there are many sets of eyes on Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas product Trevon Grimes and he never seems to disappoint. BuckeyeGrove.com was at his practice on Thursday to see the five-star in action.

OBSERVATIONS

- Having seen Trevon Grimes several times now in various settings, it's not easy to impress anymore, but sure enough the five-star prospect always does something that makes you say, 'wow'. Today it was a one-handed catch along the sideline with a defender draped all over him.

- Perhaps the most unique thing about Grimes, beyond his size/speed combination, is how he is able to disengage and separate from defensive backs who are getting physical with him (IE: Holding him like crazy). He does a great job of using his hands to get disengaged and his athleticism does the rest.

- Watching Grimes over the past few years, the one thing that he has really improved on is his leadership. Early on in his career, there were other leaders on the team and Grimes was comfortable taking a back seat to those guys. This spring, it's his team. He's first in all of the drills and he's leading both by example and vocally.

- Aquinas didn't do much 11-on-11 on Thursday, but the few times a running play was called Grimes' way, he answered the bell as a blocker. He's not afraid to dish out contact and sacrifice his body for the success of the running game.

- Beyond that, Grimes continued to show what we've always seen from him; precision route running, sure hands, and a physical presence that puts defensive backs at a such a disadvantage.

OUTLOOK

I haven't been shy about my opinion that Grimes is not only the best wide receiver in this class nationally, but arguably the best prospect in the nation and perhaps the best wide receiver to come out of high school in the past few classes. I stand by all of that.

Ohio State remains in excellent shape to land the five-star prospect. While nothing is ever a done deal until the ink is dry on the letter of intent, Ohio State sits in as good of a position with Grimes as it could, short of holding a commitment/signature.
