Goodwin drops 34 in win

30-point games are becoming a regular occurrence for class of 2018 Upper Arlington (Ohio) guard Dane Goodwin. The 6-foot-4 sharpshooter poured in 34 on Sunday afternoon as the Golden Bears rolled past Garfield Heights at the Flyin' to the Hoop Invitational at Kettering (Ohio) Fairmont High School.

The Ohio State commit is having a tremendous season, averaging 27.6 points per game (per 270hoops.com) and he credits a more well balanced attack for his success.

"I think this year I have gotten a lot better," explained Goodwin. "I think my mid-range game (has improved) and I'm getting by people (off the dribble). Last year I lacked that and this year it is kind of catching up to me."

Goodwin committed to Ohio State during his freshman season and while the Buckeyes have been struggling recently, the local prospect's relationships within the program remain strong.

"I have a great relationship with coach Matta," he said. "I know this year hasn't been the best of years for him but I'm confident in him and that Ohio State will get it going."

Goodwin is part of what is currently a three-man class in 2018, with all three prospects coming from the state of Ohio. His initial role looks like it will be as a two-guard, where he's eager to pair with Versailles (Ohio) star Justin Ahrens.

"I think it all depends," he said. "With the commitment of Justin (Ahrens), we can kind of play off each other. He's more of a three-guard and I'll be more of a two-guard, but it just depends on the guys who are there."

Goodwin's Upper Arlington team is now 12-1 on the season. He'll have a big showdown with defending state champion Westerville South and fellow Ohio State pledge Kaleb Wesson on January 24th.
