The Buckeyes got some good news on Wednesday morning on the basketball recruiting front as Lakewood (Ohio) St. Edward center Derek Funderburk gave his pledge to the Buckeyes. The class of 2016 center is rated as the No. 48 player overall in the Rivals150 and is Ohio State's first commitment for the class.

I've made the decision to become a Buckeye. I will pursue my college career at The Ohio State University. #BuckeyeNation 🌰- Derek Funderburk (@TooEvsy4) April 1, 2015

The four star center checks in at 6-foot-9 and 205 pounds and picked the Buckeyes over offers from Iowa and Xaiver. Indiana, Tennessee and Clemson were all showing increased interest in the Ohio big man as well during the process.

Ohio State never gave up in its pursuit of Funderburk however and got their guy.

"They are a great academic school," Funderburk said. "I love the atmosphere, the fans, the school itself, the coaches, the players and the facilities. Just everything about Ohio State."

Funderburk went on to add what may have tipped the scales in favor of Ohio State and make it the school he wanted to end up at.

"Most importantly I wanted a school where I felt like it was home," Funderburk added.
