After a somewhat slow start, the Ohio State defense clamped down to shut out Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights gained some early running lanes by successfully establishing double teams and forward movement on the Buckeye defensive tackles.
Rutgers also exploited some cutback opportunities that resulted from Ohio State linebacker over pursuit.
And the Scarlet Knights obtained an early third down conversion by utilizing a bunch trips formation to free a shallow cross against nickel Damon Arnette.
But Ohio State quickly eliminated any Scarlet Knights early success. The Buckeyes began by regularly obtaining pressure with their front four defenders. Ohio State improved on its S & P+ “havoc” rate by recording three sacks and four tackles for loss.
