Freshman QB lands two offers

The recruiting process is off to a fast start for Toledo (Ohio) Whitmer freshman quarterback Riley Keller. The 6-foot, 185-pound prospect opened some eyes a few weeks ago with a four touchdown performance against traditional power Toledo Central Catholic. That performance led to a pair of scholarship offers from Ole Miss and Toledo.

The hometown Rockets were the first to offer, with head coach Jason Candle having a chance to watch Keller live.

"Coach Candle was at the game that I threw four touchdowns," recalled Keller. "He told my coach that I had an offer. I guess he liked what he saw."

Ole Miss was next, in a move that really surprised the freshman signal caller.

"Not at all, I wasn't expecting it," Keller said. "It was definitely a surprise once I got the news that they offered me. It has just motivated me pretty much."

Keller says he will now pay closer to attention to the Ole Miss program, but is a fan of freshman quarterback Shea Patterson, a Toledo area native.

"I don't know much," he said. "I've watched a few of their games and I like their offense. I've followed Shea Patterson (originally from Toledo) a little bit."

Two other Big Ten programs also have Keller's interest and are two that he likes to turn on the TV to watch on Saturdays.

"I like to watch Michigan State and Ohio State," he said. "There's just something about Michigan State that I like. Ohio State, I really like their offense. I just really like to watch their offense, it's really exciting. I like the way their quarterbacks play and I just like watching them."

Keller is also generating early interest from Iowa State.
