Elite sophomore could see himself at Ohio State

The state of Georgia is loaded with talent in the 2019 class and Ohio State will once again be active in trying to convince some of that talent to head north. On Saturday, the Buckeyes hosted a pair of elite prospects from St. Simon's Island (Ga.) Frederica Academy, including two-way star Jashawn Sheffield.

The visit was Sheffield's first to Ohio State as the Buckeyes are recruiting him primarily as a wide receiver.

"The visit was great," said Sheffield. "I really enjoyed it. The game was great too. I really like Ohio State."

Ohio State put on a show for the recruits in attendance, dominating all facets of the game in a 62-3 win over No. 10 Nebraska. Zone 6 was responsible for many of the big plays offensively and Sheffield saw plenty to like about receivers coach Zach Smith.

"I liked coach Smith, the way he interacts with his players," Sheffield said. "He is so much fun, high energy, cool. He listens to the same music that I listen to."

Urban Meyer has already been involved in Sheffield's recruitment, which is unusual for a player who is just a sophomore. The two reconnected on Saturday and Sheffield continues to build a strong relationship with Smith as well.

"I talked to a lot of the coaches," he recalled. "I talked to coach Meyer a little bit, but mostly it was coach Smith, (recruiting assistant Eron Hodges) and coach Smith's assistant. They just talked to me about being a Buckeye."

Sheffield has talked up Ohio State quite a bit in the past, but having a chance to actually see the program up close adds a new perspective. With nearly 20 offers already from some of the nation's top programs, Sheffield will certainly be a tough pull out of the South, but Ohio State gets high marks early on from him.

"I like Ohio State a lot," he said. "i can really see myself living here and playing here."
