Drennen staying hot on recruiting trail

Class of 2020 Dublin (Ohio) Coffman ATH Mike Drennen continues to see his recruiting process take off. The 5-foot-11, 170-pound running back/wide receiver has been making the rounds recently, checking out schools that are showing interest. Drennen visited Ohio State a couple of weeks ago for its Student Appreciation Day where he was able to watch practice.

"Ohio State was a great visit," said Drennen. "For it to be a winner/loser day, there was a lot of competition so I liked to watch that."

Drennen has made a couple of visits to Ohio State in recent months and plans to camp with the Buckeyes at some point in June. He is starting to build a relationship with running backs coach Tony Alford.

"Coach Alford, I actually know his son, so I talked to coach Alford for a little bit," he said. "They just told me to come back and to show my face (around Ohio State) as much as possible. "

This past weekend, Drennen was able to make his first visit to Tennessee for the Vols' spring game.

"The spring game was really good while it lasted," he said. "We only got to watch a half and then it got shut down because of the weather."

The Vols are a childhood favorite of Drennen's so he was eager to get a look at everything in Knoxville and he did not come away disappointed.

"To be honest, I think they have the best facilities that I've seen so far," he said. "I liked them a lot. Me and My dad are both Tennessee fans so I wanted to go down there just to see everything. It was probably just the size of everything (that stood out) and everything is orange and it just pops out at you."

With increased interest from power programs like Ohio State and Tennessee, the good news continued this week with his first Big Ten offer from Indiana.

"I wasn't expecting it," Drennen said. "They came to the school and told my coach that they were offering. I was pretty happy about that."

Drennen had previously visited Indiana back in November, though much of that coaching staff has moved on since then.

"The biggest thing I remember from that visit is that their weight room is huge," he said. "I got a tour and everything and (the weight room) really stood out."

Drennen is expected to participate in this Saturday's Under Armour camp in Cincinnati.
