Class of 2020 Dublin (Ohio) Coffman running back/athlete Mike Drennen burst onto the scene last fall as a rare freshman starter for the Shamrocks. Starting as a slot receiver, Drennen was able to make a big impact for Coffman last season, but his role will increase as a sophomore. Drennen has played running back most of his life and he'll be able to transition back into that role at times for Coffman, he'll be used in a variety of different ways this fall.

That transition has been a positive one so far as it has allowed Drennen to use all of the tools in the toolbox and has put him in positions where he can make plays. The plays have been made quite frequently in August scrimmages and he's hoping that will carry over into a big sophomore season.

"Last year during the scrimmages I wasn't doing as well as I'm doing now," Drennen said after a recent scrimmage. "I've got a better feel for high school football now."

Kentucky, Indiana, Cincinnati, and Louisville have all put forth offers to Drennen with many more programs potentially on the verge of pulling the trigger after sophomore film comes out.

"Ohio State, Michigan, Tennessee, I'm hearing from all of those schools," Drennen continued.

Drennen was at Friday Night Lights in July where he continued to impress the Ohio State coaching staff, most notably running backs coach Tony Alford.

"I talked to coach Alford," he said. "He said that they are going to be watching me this year. They already know about me and he said that one day I'm going to be playing (at Ohio State) for sure."

As a Columbus area kid, Drennen enjoyed the opportunity to work out in Ohio Stadium, though he did his best to not let that type of thing detract from his camp performance.

"It was really fun," he said. "I tried to tune out everything else but it was fun and it was really good competition."

Drennen will kick off his season on Friday night.
