Penn comes up big in District Championship win

Class of 2020 Dublin (Ohio) Coffman point guard Dominiq Penn saved arguably his best performance of his young career for the big stage of a district championship game. The sophomore guard scored 30 points against rival Upper Arlington to lead Coffman to a 68-51 win and a berth in the regional tournament.

"It's probably in my top few," said Penn after the game, when asked if it was the best game he has played. "Top three I'd say."

Upper Arlington had defeated Coffman twice during the regular season, both times due to a buzzer beater. Getting revenge added a little more to winning the district.

"It's an unexplainable feeling," Penn said. "I don't know, it's just so amazing."

Penn had everything going during the game. His mid-range jumper was falling and he was able to build off of that and get to the rim with ease later in the contest.

"I'd say it gives me a lot of confidence," Penn said on hitting those early jumpers. "It gets me going a lot and I just kept on going."

Penn had arguably his best performance of the season in front of his father, Ohio State hall of famer Scoonie Penn as well as Ohio State assistant coach Ryan Pedon. Penn and his father shared a special moment together after the game.

"He just told me that I played a great game and that we've got more work to do," Penn recalled.

Penn is obviously linked very closely with the Ohio State program but the legacy prospect wants to go through the recruiting process the right way, which means evaluating other options and doing his homework on the programs that are recruiting him.

"I'm close with the players (at Ohio State) and I'm there a lot," he said. "I really like Ohio State but I like some other schools as well so I'm still keeping my options open. I'm looking at Notre Dame, I like Kentucky, ACC schools, Big Ten schools."

But there is no question that Penn has been impressed with the turn around of the Ohio State program this year. Picked to finish towards the bottom of the conference, the Buckeyes are in line to got a pretty high seed on Sunday evening in the NCAA tournament.

"I thought it was great," he said of the turn around. "I didn't really expect it, honestly. I didn't know what was going to happen. It makes my dad happy."
