COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State took a hit in terms of quarterback depth on Wednesday when it was learned that redshirt sophomore QB Stephen Collier tore his ACL during Ohio State's spring game in April and will be lost for the season. BuckeyeGrove.com confirmed this injury through multiple sources. A university spokesperson could not confirm the nature of Collier's injury but did confirm that Collier did suffer an injury in the spring game and had a Wednesday surgery slated.

Collier is expected to miss the entire 2016 season.

The Leesburg (Ga.) native was listed as the No. 3 quarterback on the Ohio State depth chart behind starter and captain J.T. Barrett and redshirt freshman Joe Burrow.

Collier has not attempted a pass during his time as a Buckeye but was listed on the participation chart for Ohio State's 2015 game against Hawai'i. The Ohio State coaches mentioned Collier as a strong performer during spring practice in 2016.

The Buckeyes now are very thin at the back-up QB position with Burrow as the solid No. 2 and incoming freshman Dwayne Haskins walking in as the No. 3 quarterback in Collier's absence.

Ohio State lost three potential quarterbacks after the 2015 season with players like Cardale Jones, Braxton Miller and Jalin Marshall all leaving the program. Jones and Miller were both selected in the NFL Draft while Marshall signed an undrafted free agent deal.

Collier has already used a redshirt season but this could open the door for an extra year of eligibility down the line if the quarterback and Ohio State decide to pursue that route eventually.

News of Collier's injury was first reported by Eleven Warriors.
