The class of 2011 is in the books and now the eyes and attention of the college recruiting world has turned toward the class of 2012. None of these athletes can have written offers yet per new NCAA regulations but that has not stopped top programs from letting the big name players know that offers are coming and has kept big name players from offering early pledges.
2012 may be known as the year of the defensive lineman in the state of Ohio with four of the top eight spots going to that position in our initial rankings. But the top spot is going to an offensive lineman, Kyle Kalis out of Lakewood (Ohio) St. Ed's. We had a chance to see Kalis at the Ohio State senior advanced camp last summer go against those top linemen and not only hold his own but dominate in his own right.
Ohio State has already pulled verbal pledges from Kalis and four other members of the top-15 from within the state. But the Buckeyes will have a small class this year and undoubtedly will also look some out of state so that will open up a lot of opportunities for other programs to look toward the state of Ohio and try and raid a state that the Buckeyes have done a great job of locking up under the Jim Tressel-era.
So who do we like near the top of the list and who do we feel is a sleeper at this point? We are going 40 deep with our initial list of Ohio products and will bring our next installment in the spring after the camp season. Check it out and see who you like and who you need to get familiar with for the coming months of recruiting.
