COLUMBUS, Ohio –– Ryan Day has been careful not to let slip any indication of who might have the upper hand in Ohio State’s three-man battle to replace Justin Fields at quarterback, and the Buckeye head coach said Monday that he doesn’t necessarily expect that competition to end any time soon.

In fact, Day said even after the Buckeyes take the field against Minnesota in September’s season opener, there’s plenty of potential for changes to take place at the position given the collective lack of game experience the trio possesses.

“I’d love to sit here and tell you that I think we’ll have a great feel for it in two weeks or three weeks or the fifth practice of preseason, but I don’t think so,” Day said. “I do think the more we’re around them, the more we get a feel for it and the more it shakes out, but even going into that first game, you’ll still be learning and trying to evaluate it all.”
