Clark has strong showing in Cincy

Having been committed for over a year now, Akron (Ohio) Hoban quarterback Danny Clark doesn't need to be competing at regional camps for exposure or to prove a point. The 6-foot-4, 228-pound Ohio State pledge showed up in Cincinnati anyway on Saturday morning to compete in the Rivals Quarterback Challenge event. Clark was solid from start to finish, earning the Young Gun award at the end of the event. Still, Clark walked away wanting to talk more about how he can improve than his strong performance.

"I threw a few pretty balls today but I thought I could have done better," said Clark after the camp. "I feel like I could have thrown it better today and I have some stuff that I can take away from here that I can work on and I'm happy about that."

Clark went on to breakdown his performance.

"I thought I was pretty good with throwing a tight spiral on the run," he continued. "The quick throws went pretty well, just loading it and getting it out. The math equation drill where you had to solve a math problem and then throw was something that was new to me, I had never done that before, so that got me a few times. It was great to be here and I'm glad that I have some stuff that I can work on."

Clark has emerged as a leader in Ohio State's 2017 recruiting class and he was back on campus this past weekend for the spring game. Part of Clark's weekend entailed hanging out with two fellow class of 2017 commits and helping to make sure they stay in the fold.

"It was special," he said. "99,000 people for a practice. That's unreal. Buckeye Nation is a different breed. I enjoy it every time I go down there and getting to hang out with Bruce Judson and Shaun Wade, strengthening their commitments, it was great. They enjoyed every second and I was glad I was able to be there with them."

After spending time with the two Floridians, Clark believes the two will stick with their commitments and continue to help build the foundation for what could be a very highly rated 2017 Ohio State recruiting class.

"In my opinion, there's no way either of them end up at any other college," he said. "They're both Buckeyes all the way. I'm glad I'm getting tight with them because we're going to be Buckeyes forever. To be honest, I didn't have to tell them anything, they just had to experience it. They see all the fans, how the people react, what the players are like, and they see what Ohio State has. All of those little things build up and they really love it there."

As an added bonus for Clark, his good friend Todd Sibley committed to Ohio State on Sunday. The two will be teaming up at Archbishop Hoban for the final two seasons of their high school careers.

"It was awesome," Clark said of Sibley's commitment. "He sent me a text saying that it was time or whatever and I was just like 'let's go'. All we're doing is building a family right now."

Clark will be competing again on Sunday at the Rivals Camp Series stop in Cleveland.
