Buckeyes land surprise commit out of Las Vegas

The class of 2017 should be a good year for Ohio State at the position of defensive tackle and on Tuesday morning the Buckeyes picked up a big piece with the verbal pledge of Las Vegas (Nev.) DT Haskell Garrett.

The 6-foot-1, 286-pounder out of Bishop Gorman high school recently picked up an Ohio State offer and committed to Ohio State over the likes of offers from schools that included Notre Dame, Nebraska, Penn State, Texas A&M, USC and Washington to name a few.

Garrett is ranked No. 106 in the nation by Rivals.com and is a four-star recruit.

The new Ohio State pledge recently told BlueandGold.com (Notre Dame site of the Rivals.com network) that Notre Dame was his No. 1 school back in December but apparently an offer from the Buckeyes changed that in recent days and Garrett opted to pull the trigger for the Buckeyes with so many other big defensive tackles on the board and looking to get into the Ohio State class.

The Buckeyes are now sitting at 11 players in the class of 2017 and have the top class in the nation according to Rivals.com's team recruiting rankings.

We will have more on this breaking news including why Garrett decided to make the pledge and what this means to Ohio State's recruiting class of 2017.
