Buckeyes land five-star lineman

Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer has a very long track record of pulling in huge commitments on National Signing Day and he just landed one of his biggest ever in Tampa (Fla.) Berkley Prep offensive tackle Nick Petit-Frere.

The 6-foot-5, 275-pound prospect just announced his pledge to the Buckeyes over Alabama, Notre Dame, Florida, and Michigan, giving Ohio State a commitment from the nation's top-ranked offensive lineman in the 2018 class.

Ohio State's win was a war of attrition. The Buckeyes received a couple of unofficial visits during the process but many felt they trailed a couple of schools heading into the fall, including Notre Dame who was a presumed leader back in the fall. But Greg Schiano and Urban Meyer stuck with it and the Buckeyes surged to the lead coming out of this past weekend's official visit and were able to hold off four other heavyweight programs to secure the five-star tackle's signature.

"I was considering them the whole time," Petit-Frere said on ESPNU. "I just had a few questions that I wanted to get answered (on the official visit) and they answered them."

Petit-Frere's commitment leaves the Buckeyes waiting on just two prospects, Rivals100 offensive tackle Rasheed Walker and four-star New Jersey pass-rushing specialist Javontae-Jean Baptiste. But regardless of which direction those two prospects go, this has been another extremely successful finish for Meyer and his staff.
