Buckeyes first to offer Georgia prospect

Ohio State likely won't be slowing down its efforts in recruiting the talent rich state of Georgia anytime soon. On Monday, the Buckeyes became the first school to offer class of 2019 St. Simon's Island (Ga.) Frederica Academy athlete Jaylin Simpson. The 5-foot-11, 155-pound cornerback was thrilled to get on the board with his first offer.

"It was unreal," said Simpson of landing the offer. "I figured something was up because Jashawn (Sheffield) ran into study hall and jumped on the table and threw me the phone."

The Buckeyes had previously offered Sheffield, Simpson's classmate, but are now hoping to make it a two-for-one at the Southeast Georgia program.

"I talked to coach Meyer and I talked to coach Coombs yesterday (Sunday)," he said. "(Ohio State is) a great program with great tradition."

The two prospects have the green light to visit Ohio State at any point this fall and are trying to make it happen.

"I hope to come up to a game soon," he added.

Simpson's work on Monday wasn't finished however, as shortly after the Ohio State offer came through, he grabbed his second offer of the process from Tennessee.
