COLUMBUS, Ohio – There has been plenty of talk how the turmoil that has surrounded the Ohio State football program may affect the on-field product this season or maybe how the College Football Playoff committee may view this team, but there has not been as much talk on a national stage about recruiting.
Ohio State is already sitting with a strong group of verbal commitments for the class of 2019 and the class of 2020 could be a class for the ages. Ohio State's recruiting was moving along just fine until Urban Meyer's future was suddenly uncertain.
The Buckeyes ultimately did lose one commit, linebacker Kane Patterson out of Nashville (Tenn.) last week but by all accounts, that might be as deep as that goes if everything else remains the same. But with that being said, the Buckeyes have not received a commitment during this time of unrest and has seen a handful of potential commits delay decisions as they try and figure things out.
Ohio State will also lose two home games, more than likely, to bring in top recruits for football with Meyer suspended with games one (Oregon State) and two (Rutgers) both taking place at home. While neither game figured to be the ideal backdrop to bring in some of the top players, it is less than ideal when the art of juggling visits for top kids is a difficult one with everyone being pulled in multiple directions.
For now, the Ohio State coaching staff is keeping up the efforts with their current classes and has reaped the rewards by addressing things head on.
